A GOOD ONE

Bill Hughes, of Padlock, Loch. Moigh, and Derby Lynn fame, produced one out of the bag on the final day at Hastings. This was a five-year--old mare by Matchlighi from Valkyria, named Modern Light, and she shone conspicuously on two occasions. She won the Clive Handicap in 3.34 off a 3.45 mark, and in the Longlands Handicap v/as penalised 24yds, making her mark 3.3. Home she came again in good style, to register 2.54 1-5 for ten furlongs. Modern Light very much resembles Linkman in appearance, and if she goes on as she has commenced, will in a season or two achieve as much distinction.
