NEW TAMAKI BRIDGE
HIGHWAYS BOARD’S ADVICE ASKED Advice from the Highways Board ' concerning the means of obtaining contributions from other local bodies toward tlie construction of a new bridge over Tamaki river is to be sought by j the Manukau County Council. The i council yesterday decided to ask for ! a commission to be set up to decide j the apportionment of cost, if the High- , ways Board was unable to arrive at a ! decision. Tenders for the reconstruction and concrete paving of the Panmure-How-ick main highway were reported by the engineer, Mr. J. .R. Page to have been called. On receipt of a communication from the Highways Board, a contract would be let and the work commenced. The first stage, included the regrading and paving of the length between Panmure Bridge and the junction of Hattaway’s Road. The detour roads would be strengthened. Work would shortly be commenced on improving the alignment and grades on the Maungaroa Gorge Road, on the Howick-Manurewa main highway. The Auckland City Council’s offer of German machine-guns and trench mortars was declines. The chairman was nominated for a seat on the War Memorial Museum Council. __________————
