RADIUM TREATMENT

CONCESSION TO COOK BOARD’S PATIENTS The £5,000 gift for the purchase of radium by Mr. John Clark, of Gisborne, handed over by the Cook Hospital Board to the Auckland board for treatment of cancer patients here, was referred to in a report to the meeting yesterday. The board decided not to accept counter-proposals from the Cook Board that it should be paid 6 per cent, in cash on the amount of the donation, and to adhere to the previous decision to provide free treatment to the value of £3OO a year to patients from the Cook Hospital district. The board agreed to send 190 milligrams to the Radium Beige to be converted into 190 noodles of .5, 1 and 2 milligrams’ capacity, at a cost of £561. The building committee was authorised to consider providing increased accommodation for male infirmary patients. At present, according to a report, there were eight patients more than the normal number in these wards. The same trouble existed in the T.B. areas, w’here often accommodation could not immediately be obtained. Dr. Andra Warnock was appointed medical officer for the women's V.D. clinic being established at the hospital. Mr. A. H. Jones, relief officer, was granted six months’ leave of absence on account of ill-health.
