FIRST ISSUE OF SAMOA “HERALD” BRIGHT LAYOUT A now paper has made its appearance in Samoa in place of the Samoa •Times.'’ Incorporating the former paper, the first copy of the Samoa •Herald’* is a brighter edition of its predecessor. The first copy, published at Apia on ed at The Sun Office. Th< front page is made up to modern style with news matter, the news of the islands being well covered in the eight pages of the journal. An editorial, outlining the policy of the Samoa “Herald.” states that there is no special significance attached to the decision to change the name from the Samoa “Times” to the Samoa • Herald.” but as it was decided to alter the form of the journal in its general layout, a notion took shape suggesting a reversal to the name “Herald.” Several decades ago the paper was called •The Weekly Herald.” hut as that title did not identify it with the territory, the more appropriate name “The Samoa Herald.” was agreed upon. The aim and intention of the paper, according to the editorial, is to promote the welfare of the people of Western Samoa and to assist in the development of the agricultural and industrial progress of the islands, and to exercise the right of fair criticism in the conduct of administrative and public affairs.
