MUST PAY FULL COST
OUTSIDE PATIENTS AT HOSPITAL SPECIAL TREATMENT Patients from other districts entering the Auckland Hospital for special treatment, will have to pay the full cost of treatment 15s a day in future, according to a decision of the board yesterday. Attention to the Influx of patients from outside districts, seeking special treatment available at the local institution, was directed by the finance committee, who recommended the full admission provided the full cost of treatment and maintenance was guaranteed. Stating that patients were coming into the hospital from all over the country, Mr. Wallace, chairman, added that Auckland ratepayers had to make up for any deficiency on account of local patients. He could not see, however, why the board’s ratepayers should bo called upon to bear* the burden of deficiency in the case of outside patients, who were occupying beds that could ill be spared. The board adopted the committee’s recommendation.
