MRS. J. H. HODGE One of the oldest residents oZ Thames, Airs. Jan© Ellen Hodge, wife of Air. J. 11. Hodge, has died at the age of 7G. Born in Yorkshire, Airs. ; Hodge came to New Zeeland with her parents in 1864 in the ship Ernestine, j and on arrival her father was sent to Thames to erect the first battery for Hunt’s Shotover mine. She was married in 1875 and was an enthusiastic church worker. Airs. Hodge is survived by her husband and four daughters. MRS A. TAYLER Airs. Archdale Tayler, who lias died , in Auckland at the age of 63. was for | many years prominent in Auckland j j musical e.ircles. She was the pos- \ | sessor of a fine soprano voice and sang j solo parts with the Auckland Choral i Society, with Herr Schmidt as con- | due tor. When her career closed, she interested herself in the Auckland Society of Musicians, and until a short time before her death was a vice-presi-dent. The late Air. Tayler was also interested in music and did valuable work for the Auckland Amateur Operatic Society. Mrs. Tayler is survived by one son and two daughters. MAJOR E. E. LANGFORD i Advice received in Auckland reports I the death of Alajor Ernest Edward Langford, well known in the Gisborne district, where his father was a pioneer settler. Alajor Langford was born at ! Mangapapa 59 years ago, and was well j known as an International Rugby footj ball player and was a member of the team which man;' years ago played against America.
