WELFARE LEAGUE REPLIES
Sir,— ••Britisher” in his letter t ems to question our quotations and also slightly misquotes us.. We did not say that we “disbelieved those atrocious atrocity stories”—but that w e admitted that cabled news from Riga was not reliable. There are, however, other sources of information in the * official organs of the Soviet Government; copies of which we have in our possession and from these we took the quotations given in our letter. From our knowledge of the position in Russia official papers are so closely censored that any speech reported therein is sure to be correct. That priests and others
have been killed and that the "AntiLod campaign has been responsible for persecution seems to be unquestionable, and “Britisher” must see that exaggeration may exist and still leave room for much truth. His instance of Anti-God journals elsewhere and in this country, is no argument to justify persecution in Russia. These journals are part of a world campaign against all kinds of religion. This campaign exists beyond question, and is organised from Russia through many channels.—a deliberate, well-planned attack, and all those who have any faith in religion be they Jews. Christians or Mohammedans, surely have a right to protest against such a xmpaign which in Russia is accompanied by persecution. This is all. that has been advocated a national protest. N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE. March 15, 1930.
