TWO SHOPS DESTROYED
FIRE AT WHANGAREI OCCUPANTS HEAVY LOSERS From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. A disastrous outbreak of fire occurred at 2.15 this morning, when two shops in Bank Street, occupied by Mr. Chalkley, confectioner, and Mr. Norman, pram manufacturer, were almost completely destroyed by fire. The shops were the property of Mrs. I. L. Grice, of Auckland. The fire had a good hold before the brigade was summoned. Chalkley’s stock was valued at £2OO and Norman’s at £350, while the insurances were only £IOO and £l5O, respectively.
