From Our Own Correspondent ROTORUjf, Friday. The primary school committee meeting was presided over on Thursday by Mr. O. A. Clarke. The headmaster, Mr. G. Barber, reported that the roll number was 505. He asked for a school holiday for Friday, March 14, the occasion of the school horticultural show. A letter was received from Si>Joseph Ward regretting that he was unable to attend the show on Friday. The Education Board forwarded a letter received from Mr. A. R. Grif? fiths and others, asking that a school be established at Rotorua West. Inquiries are to be made. • * * Yesterday Messrs. Keith Richards and W. Gow left for the South Island on a deer shooting expedition, having secured block S in the Westlawd district. Lord Latymer and party have the adjoining block. Mr. T. Jackson, Mayor, presided and Dr. Emma Buckley Turkington was the lecturer at a meeting convened to consider the question of a Chair of Obstetrics at Otago University. Dr. Hay supported the plea for funds. “We have neglected the claims of motherhood before the child is born though the Plunket Society and others take charge of the child after birth,” said Dr. Wallis. Steps were taken to form an executive body, the Mayoress being elected president and Mr. A. W. Downes secretary.
