IMPORTANT SWIMMING
MOUNT EDEN’S EVENT Important races will be held by the Mount Eden Amateur Swimming Club at its third carnival of the season at the Bellevue Road Baths, Mount Eden, on Tuesday evening. In addition to the races, there will be diving and water polo. The inter-club relay championship over 333 1-3 yards, for the President’s Cup, will be the principal event. Teams from Waitemata, Ponsonby, Parnell, Grammar, North Shore and Mount Eden have entered. Mount Eden is the holder of the cup, but relay swimming this season in Auckland has been very even. After a full handicap programme and primary schools relays for the Stevenson and the Nicholson shields, W. Hassan, Barry Young, H. Neale and R. Frankham will give a diving exhibition. Nominations close today at the Tepid Baths. CHAMPIONSHIP PROTESTS From Our Oton Coi'respondent MORRINSVILLE, Today. At a meeting of the executive of the South Auckland Swimming Centre, held in Morrinsville on Thursday evening, delegates were present from Paeroa, Waihi, Cambridge and Morrinsville. A protest was received regarding certain Morrinsville swimmers who had competed in junior and intermediate events at the Te Awamutu carnival on Saturday after competing in senior events. After a lengthy discussion members agreed that a point of law was involved and it was decided to refer the question to the New Zealand Swimming Council for its decision. Another protest referred to a swimmer who had competed in a handicap event for swimmers under 17 at the Morrinsville Club’s carnival on February 3. It was alleged that he was over 17. The matter was referred to the Morrinsville Club. NEW CLUB FORMED From Our Own Correspondent MATAMATA, Today. At a well attended meeting on March 11 in the Okauia Hall, presided over by Mr. D. B. Higgins, it was decided to form a swimming club. Officers were elected as follow: Patron, Mr. J. W. Anderson; president, Mr. J. Buchanan; secretary, TV. F. Faulkner; vice-presidents, Messrs. R. TV Stevens and H. Sutherland, senr.: auditor, L. W. Barkman; treasurer, D. B. Higgins; club captain, H. Sutherland, junr.; committee, W. McDonald, TV. John, J. H. La Trobe, H. Brisco and J. TV. Spinley; handicappers, C. Taylor, A. Stewart and R. Martin; timekeepers, R. Martin and J. Tapper. It was decided to affiliate with the South Auckland Association and the rules of the Morrinsville Club were adopted in the meantime. An extended programme was drawn up for the carnival to take place shortly and the handsome cup donated by Reid Brothers, Auckland, for, competition was allotted to the 50yds local championship event. Local swimmers have the advantage of being able to use the hot baths summer and winter. The bath itself is well appointed and of standard size. Miss Lily Copplestone, the well-known swimmer, will be in attendance at the bath for a short period to give tuition to those wishing to learn the art of swimming.
