HERNE BAY-PONSONBY COMMITTEE MEETS. Mrs. W. A. Cooke, convener, presided at the first meeting held by the large and enthusiastic comj mittee. which is conducting the obstetrical appeal in the Herne Bay-Ponsonby district, j The meeting was held in the Leys j Institute and the placing of a room for committee meetings during the campaign by the Leys Institute was greatly appreciated. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Dr. Buckley-Turkington: committee. Mesdames Cammell, Dickinson, Dreaver, Ford. Flynn, Gallagher, Grace, Hastings. Jackson. Joiner. Kennett, Leydon, Alarler, Palmer. Bussell, Smith, Loirance. Soljak, AVengdall, Williams, and Alisses Kieley and Phillips; hon. secretary, Aliss Larsie I Sloane; hon. treasurer. Airs. W. A. Cooke. Matters in connection with the launching of the appeal in Richmond, j West End Estate, Herne Bay, College Hill, and a part of Ponsonby, to be known as the Herne Bay-Ponsonby j district were fully discussed. The j whole area was divided into five ! groups, which will be canvassed by , a busy band of energetic women work- 1 To augment the quota for the dis- 1 trict, which now stands at £250, an | offer of a bridge drive, to be held in Point Erin Park Kiosk on Wednesday, Alarch 26, was accepted. It was decided to meet each Thurs- j day at 2 p.m. Dr. Buckley-Turkington consented to ; give an address to -the opening meet- 1 ing of the St. John Methodist Women’s 1 ! Guild next Tuesday, and in St. Cuthbert’s Alission Hail the same evening, j Alarch 18, at 7.30 p.m. on the urgent | need for a chair of obstetrics. A first subscription list accounting for £8 2s was handed in by an energetic collector. ENGAGEMENTS The engagement is announced of Ethel Ruby, second daughter of Mr. and Airs. J. L. Dabinette, of Waihi, to Leonard Arthur Crisp, second son of Air. and Airs. A. AI. Burrows, Collingwood Taranaki. The engagement is announced of Alargaret Hazel, youngest daughter ol' Air. and Mrs. Allan Wilson, Ocean View Road, Northcote, to Joseph Charles, only son of Air. and Airs. J. C. Draper, Teddington, Aliddlesex, England.
