THE CIRCUS LURE

WIRTHS’ GREAT SHOW There is no denying - the lure of the circus. To young and old, its call still proves irresistible, and again last evening Wirth Bros.’ Circus, which is being presented at the old dock site, was attended by a large crowd. In these •days, thrills are always in demand among the younger generation, and to get these it is not necessary to get into a high-powered car and tear along the road. Instead, just take a little walk from Queen Street, and visit the canvas city, where thrills in plenty await the spectator. There are several acts of outstanding merit. The Flying La Mars are in one of the greatest, if not the greatest, trapeze acts to visit this city. Some time ago there was a moving picture which told a story of a troupe of trapeze artists, and scenes depicting their daring somersaults in midair while flying from one trapeze to another brought gasps from the audience. The, Flying La Mars present an act which is. every bit as good. They twist, turn, and somersault high up in the dome of the tent, flying the while from one trapeze to another. The Lias troupe of acrobats present a wonderful act. They are not ordinary acrobats, but specialise in hand-to-hand and foot-to-foot turns. This act alone is worth the admission money. The three Arconas show hairraising- balancing feats, and other items which it is impossible to enumerate include the Santey Duo, Claudia Alba, the strong woman, Mr. J. Clarke and his wonderful trained ponies, to say nothing of the elephant and bear acts.
