FIVE-YEAR VALUATION
SICKNESS EXPECTATION IN LODGES INCONSISTENCIES FOUND The quinquennial valuation of the Auckland district of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, for the period from 1920 to 1925, proved of considerable interest at tne provincial conference, continued in Auckland this morning. Friendly societies are required to conduct this valuation, under the New Zealand law. every live years. They are undertaken by the State without cost to ;the societies. The delegates to the conference were gratified at the disappearance of the high actuarial deficiency of £14,785, with which the area began as a consolidated district in 1916. and its replacement bv a surplus. Questions now concerning the order include the excessive rate of -sickness. It was tound that, in the quinquennium concerned, the sickness among female members was 64 per cent above expectation. and, among male members, 56 per cent. The report added that the higher rate of sickness among lemale members was. to be anticipated and the tables of contributions should •be revised to meet the excess liability. In non-mining lodges, the sickness among males was 7 per cent, above expectation. The district’s oldest lodge, begun in 1860, had 5 per cent, below expectation; another established in 1574 had 32 per cent, below; one branch, however, had 88 per Rent, in excess of expectation. It wris considered that the inconsistencies should be investigated. and the incoming management committee is to prepare a report New officers are to be installed at a ■ ceremony this evening. __
