BROADSIDING CONTESTS

WESTERN SPRINGS’ PROGRAMME Spectacular broadsiding contests will be staged at Western Springs stadium on Saturday evening, when some of the best New Zealand and Australian cinder shifters will participate in an interesting programme of events. Special attempts to break records will be made. An effort to lower the track time will probably be made by C. Spinks, whose thrilling expositions have earned him an enviable reputation here. It will be his last appearance, so a high-class exhibition can be expected of him. Another brilliant rider will be Frank Pearce, whose daring cornering has thrilled fans on more than one occasion. Reg. Ranby, holder of the New Zealand middle-weight grass track championship, will also be seen in action, and his cinder shifting is as good as his turf riding. Other prominent riders who will appear include the fast broadsider “Skyd” Perkins, who will also appear in a special match race with Pearce.
