BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH
FIRE BOARD PROPOSAL i The usual fortnightly meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. P. MePhail, presiding. At a request from the Devonport ! Ferry Company, it was agreed to meet the directors of the company in conference with Northcote representatives to discuss the question of the vehicular ferry service between Auckland and Northcote and Birkenhead. The Mayor and Messrs. R. R. Hayman, J. Kerruish and W, 13. Darlow will represent Birkenhead. The proposal of establishing a Fire Board met with approval and it was decided to take a poll on the proposal on Wednesday, April 2. SUGGESTED GOLF COURSE Concerning the suitability of the Birkenhead Domain, comprising 112 acres, in Glenfield Road, for use as a ; golf course, Mr. G. B. Hewson, chair- ! man of the Parks Committee, said that a golf professional had carefully inspected the domain and was satisfied that a golf course could be made on the property. There were also areas suitable for football and tennis. If the area was cleared and put in grass it could readily be leased at £4 a week, if not used for golf. He thought that £IOO should be expended in clearing the property forthwith. , Mr. IL A. Campbell supported action jin making the ground available for i sports and it was decided to place j £IOO on the ensuing year’s estimates ; for clearing this domain for the purj poses outlined. __
