PONY MYSTERY
FRAUD CHARGE FOLLOWS WIN Following Powcull's sensational win in the Novice Handicap at Rosebery ( Sydney), * last month, Detective-Ser-geant Keogh and Detective Lawranpe arrested the alleged owner and trainer o( Powcull on a charge o£ false pretences. The remarkable aspect of the affair is that the horse, according to detectives, has disappeared. Powci:Jl was heavily backed at Rosebery from tens down to threes, and to the practised eye of the stewards, behaved in a manner distinctly foreign to most novice horses. Immediately after the race the stewards examined the bay horse and found that its skin carried no brand. Prize Withheld As a result the prize money was withheld and further nominations for Powcull refused, until the matter was cleared up. Detective-Sergeant Keogh and Detective Lawrence then took up the matter, and investigated the horse's pedigree. It had been entered at Rosbery as "Powcull. by Powdal out of Fanculla." Powdall belongs to the stud of A. J. Daly, of Boorowa, and when DetectiveSergeant Keogh visited Dalv he learnt that he never had a dam called ‘ Fanculla.” At Central Police Station a man was charged with obtaining £lO from Jack Underhill, secretary of Associated Racing Club, with intent to defraud.
