£30,000,000 TUNNEL
ENGLISH CHANNEL REPORT READY Pilot bore projected British Official Wireless RUGBY, Tuesday. The report of the committee which has been investigating the Channel Tunnel proposal w r ill be issued immediately. The committee has considered the economic, •engineering and geological aspects of the matter. Some of the newspapers say they understand the committee approves the project and sees no insuperable difficulty in the wa, of the construction of the tunnel in any of the above respects. According to these unofficial forecasts it is to be recommended that a pilot tunnel be first driven under the Channel as an experiment at an estimated cost of £5,000,000. When the committee’s report is presented to Parliament there will be the political and military aspects of the project to be considered. The “Daily Chronicle’s” forecast says the committee will report favourably on the scheme, but advise that the tunnel be built by private enterprise. It would cost £30.000,000. and provide work for 30.000 men. The paper says the committee considers that the changed international conditions have removed the military objections to the project.
