PAEROA NOTES
From Our Own Correspondent PAEROA, Tuesday. Mr. A. Pellow, postmaster at Paeroa, has received notice of his transfer to Te Kuiti. Mr. G. D. Frost; of the Paeroa branch of the Public Works Department, has been transferred to Westport, and leaves for south on Friday. A big sheep train passed through Paeroa on Sunday, bound for different parts of the South Auckland district. It comprised 50 trucks, containing about 3,500 sheep. * * * The committee of the local Plunket Society conducted a very successful, stall in Belmont Road on Friday last, and as a result this branch will benefit to the extent of £l7. The stall was conducted by Mesdames O’Neill, Taylor, Marshall, Innis, Carden, Hedge. Fathers, fDeath, Pellow, Ward and Talboys. The monthly meting of the Paeroa branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held on Saturday. Mr. H. Gallagher, vice-president, presiding. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President: Mr. -H. Gallagher: vice-president: Mr. E. Turton; committee: Messrs. M. Remington, W. Garand, E. Woods, J. Mauders and F. Davies. Visits are expected shortly from Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., of Auckland, and Mr. F. Langstone, M.P., for Waimarino. The Druids’ annual picnic took place on Saturday last at the Komata Creek, and in spite of threatening weather, was a great success. A big sports programme was in the hands of Mr. R. T. Shaw, assisted by Mr. J. C. Pascoe, jun. The judges were Messrs. I W. Gerand and S. Makovich, and the ; starter and handicapper. Mr. C. Pascoe. 1 A feature of interest was a members’ ! race for a gold nugget from the New 1 Guinea goldfield, donated by Mr. S. M. Hovell, dentist, of Waihi.
