WAIUKU WATER SUPPLY
NEW SCHEME OPERATING From Our Own Correspondent WAIUKU, Tuesday. Tlie regular meeting of the Waiuku Town Board was held on Monday night when all members were present, the chairman, Mr. J. J. A. James, presiding. On behalf of the committee appointed to wait upon the Franklin Power Board, the chairman reported that the* cheapest rate for pumping would be available between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.. when the rate would be l£d a unit. For pumping outside of these hours 3d a unit would be charged. A minimum charge would be made of £25 a year and the Power Board would insert a time switch. The clerk of works, Mr. S. Chaplin, reported that the reservoir had been full since February 28 and there appeared to be no doubt that a good supply of water was available from the bores. During a trial, 7,500 gallons of water was pumped at a cost of Is 3d for power, which had been charged at 3d a unit. The clerk of works also informed the board that the thrust borer for laying water pipes under the streets and footpaths was now working excellently. Mr. Chaplin intimated that, as the water scheme was now practically completed, he would be severing his connection with the. board in a week or two. It was resolved that tlie board place on record its appreciation of the work carried out by Mr. Chaplin.
