FRANCE MOURNS
FUNDS RAISED TO HELP FLOOD VICTIMS MANY ON HOUSE-TOPS PARIS, Sunday. Today was observed as a day of mourning throughout France for the victims of the floods. All flags were flown at half-mast.’ The members of the Government cancelled their public engagements and social ceremonies were postponed. It is estimated that the damage amounts to £12,000,000. In spite of the magnitude of the disaster it is expected that a national fund and Government grants will be sufficient to pay the cost. Between Montauban and Moissae many people are still marooned on house-tops. The Premier, M. Tardieu, in an interview with journalists at Touloose, said the state of affairs in the flooded areas resembled that of the devastated regions after the war. The remedy must be similar. Personal sufferings must be aided with hard cash. Peasants would be housed and the vine industry would be helped by the Government.
