AFFORESTATION SCHEME

MINISTER VISITS TAIRUA From Our Uicn Correspondent. WAIHI, Today. The Commissioner of State Forests, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, and party, inspected the big afforestation scheme at Tairua, where the Crown controls over a hundred thousand acres, yesterday afternoon. The scheme has been in operation only a few months, but the Minister found millions of seedlings planted and gathered that some thousands more acres would be planted during the coming winter months. When interviewed the Minister expressed himself as being much impressed with the progress made. The party spent the morning inspecting the surface workings at the Waihi mine and left for Thames after luncheon.
