PREPARATIONS FOR EASTER TOURNAMENT AUCKLAND’S WOODEN SPOON Preparations are now under way for annual Easter tournament of tlie Xew Zealand Universities which is being held this year in Auckland. A total of 150 southern students will .he billeted in the city and the contests will include track athletics, swimming, tennis, basketball, shooting: and boxIt has been decided to eliminate the Annual Easter debate, usually a scene °f hilarious chaos, and hold it at a later da"e when the excitement roused hy the other events has simmered down. Swimming races have been included this year for the first time. The shield for the highest aggregate points is at present held by Wellington (Victoria College). Auckland holds the trophies for tennis, baskethall and shooting, also the “booby prize” —a wooden spoon—for the fewest points in athletic events. Wellington and Otago are the olders of the boxing trophy, and 'Wellington holds the athletic honours.
