GENEROUS GIVING

ST. MARY’S DEBT REDUCED Offerings totalling £250 were given by parishioners of St. Mary’s ProCathedral at the 70th anniversary services yesterday. As a result the parish debt has been reduced from £950 to £7OO. Preaching at the morning service. Archdeacon G. Mac Murray said he had known St. Mary’s for more than 40 years. and it was 38 years since he first became vicar of the parish. He mentioned as old friends Archdeacon G. A. Kissling, the first vicar, Archdeacon It. Maunsell, the second vicar, and several laymen associated with St. Mary's including the Hon. W. Swainson, Attorey-General for New Zealand from 1841 to 1856, Colonel T. M. Haultain, at one time Minister of Defence, Mr. Henry Tewslej 7 , Major Gay, Mr. A. V. Macdonald, and Captain Thomas Brook. Canon Fancourt, present vicar, read a message at both services from the former vicar, Canon P. James.
