LUCKY ESCAPE
MOTORISTS’ WILD RIDE OVER BANK CAR HITS HOUSE When their motor-car skidded in loose metal, dropped several feet over a bank on to a footpath, and crashed into a house at the corner of King Street and Aitken Terrace, Kingsland, at about seven o’clock last evening, the six occupants experienced a remarkable escape from serious injury. One young woman suffered injuries and shock, while another occupant received a cut on the leg. The other passengers, including the driver, Mr. H. Jackson, of Wellington Street, City, escaped scathless. The car was turning in to Aitken Terrace when the accident occurred. A reinforced concrete post and a fence were smashed in its passage. The radiator of the car was broken, the front axle smashed, and the mudguards twisted. Mrs. L. Webb, the owner of the house, was asleep in the front room when she was awakened by the resounding crash. She received a severe shock. This is the third accident that has occurred at this corner, which, because of the loose metal and steep gradient, is difficult to negotiate. The previous accidents were of a similar nature.
