IRISH TO CELEBRATE

ST. PATRICK’S DAY SPORTS ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETE Auckland orphanages will benefit from the St. Patrick’s Day sports to be held in the Domain next Saturday. Extensive arrangements have been made, and given suitable weather, the meeting is assured of success. Children’s sports will begin at 10 a.m., and will be followed at 2 p.m. by the main programme, which will bo of a very varied character. The dancing competitions of the past have been abandoned, and a big massed display of national and folk dances will be staged by a ballet of 150. A maypole dance will also be given by 144 schoolgirls dressed in the costume of the period. The sports programme will include foot and cycle events, and whippet racing. Other competitive events will be the decorated trolley and pram display by the children, and a poster and costume display. Free side-shows for the children should prove a popular innovation. The Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band will play.
