STRAND, ONEHUNGA
TALKIES ON NEW PLANT The talking film programme at the Strand Theatre, Onehunga, last evening, was presented over the latest “C and T” talkie equipment. So perfectly did this apparatus function that it is probable the majority of those present were not aware that anything new was being tried. As a matter of fact, the equipment was only installed yesterday and its performance last evening proved it to be of a high standard. To provide a thorough test a full and varied programme was presented, comprising every possible kind of entertainment, including singing, a trap drummer, comedies and a sound gazette. Every word was heard clearly in every part of the house. The programme, which will be repeated this evening, was headed by the fine Paramount talking drama, “The Wolf of Wall Street.” George Bancroft appears as a ruthless stockbroker whose only tender side was his interest in his wife, played by Olga Baclanova. The remainder of the programme included two talking comedies, “Loing His Duty,” with Ernie Lotinga as a policeman, and “Lear Teacher,” by Smith and Lale, a Paramount sound news, with a boudget from far and wide, and finally, two charming songs by Ruth Etting.
