In the Market Place
BETTER INQUIRY FRUIT TONE IMPROVES With several lines revealing increases under a firmer demand, the tone in the fruit sales in the City Markets today was much better. Passion fruit is bringing an improved demand. Small quantities, however, are coming forward. Bon Chretien pears are practically finished. Satisfactory rates, especially for Louis Rons, are ruling. Prices for several lines of apples have improved. Dessert plums are decreasing in supply, and the inquiry is firming., In the vegetable market, improvements have taken place in the prices for potatoes. The market is particularly well stocked with most lines. Only small numbers of cockerels are being penned in the poultry section, and keen competition is keeping the values well up to previous quotations. Hens and ducks are unchanged in price. Well forward pullets are returning high rates. Quotations: FRUIT Peaches.—Choice coloured, Gs to 8s: -djuni and small, 3s to 4s Gd; cooking, Plums.—Doris, Gs to 9s.
