CAR AND CYCLE RACES
EVENTS AT MANGERE HANDICAPS FOR SATURDAY Large entries have been received by j the Auckland Automobile Racing Club for the combined car and motor-cycle race meeting on Henning’s Speedway, Mangere, on Saturday. Ten events will be run off between 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. . I A feature of the programme will be the race for the New Zealand Light Cup. which has been revived after three years. This event, which was formerly run at the Muriwai Beach races over a 25-mile course, wili be over a distance of 12 laps or approximately 15 miles, being the longest race Of the day. Other cup events will be the closed car handicap and the race for women drivers. An innovation is the side-car handicap, which has attracted seven entries. This event is very popular overseas. Heavy oil has been laid on the track to obviate the dust nuisance of the past and should help to make a successful meeting.
