AMATEUR ATHLETICS

PAPATOETOE CLUB’S SPORTS Keen interest was taken by a large attendance of spectators in the evening meeting, held by the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, on the Papatoetoe Recreation Ground last evening. Those present were rewarded with some spirited and keen finishes. The points medal, awarded to the member gaining the greatest aggregate of points for a series of three meetings, was won by £5. Nicholson, who was one ahead of C. Anderson. Details of events are: Mall-mil 6 Cycle Handicap.—S. Pinfold. 10yds, 1; f. Brain, 25yds, 2; N. Johnson, 2. Jones rode a good race for the first quarter of a mile, when Pinroia put in a strong challenge, and gained the advantage when 150 yards from the Post, and won l>y four yards from Brain, wno finished fast, with Johnson five jards fourth back filling third place. One Mile Cycle Handicap.—S. Pinfold, loyds, l; F. Brain. 50yds, 2; N. Johnson, u»yus, o. Pinfold held a handy position when half the distance had been covered, and was in the leading bunch V l * last 200 yards was reached, when ne put in a great, sprint to win by four >a r dx farther back, filling third place, back third. 120 Yards Handicap.—P. Anderson. 7 yds. l; v. Smytheman, scr., 2; L. Smythelu an ’ Uyds, Nine competitors faced the starter, and from a good getaway V. * mytheman set. up a fast clip, and was among the leaders at the 100-yard peg, «jnd in spite* of his strong challenge P. Anderson held a handy position till the last 220 yards was reached, when he put in a spirited finish although strongly challenged by Newton-King, he gained the verdict by two yards, with S. Nicholson two yards farther back.
