CONTRACT COMPLETED IN NEW YORK INTEREST AT 5A PER CENT. NEW YORK, Monday. It is learned from an excellent source that the contract for the loan for the city of Sydney has been completed and is now being checked. The bonds wit! bear interest at 55 per cent. The coupons will be issued at a price that is understood to be between S 3 and S 7. The Sydney Civic Commissioners stated on February 5 that a loan was being arranged. Messrs. Blair and Company are acting in New' York and Messrs. J. B. Were and Sons, of Melbourne*. in Australia, in arranging the loan. It was reported from New York that the loan w'ould be £1,C00,000. At £B7 the return, without taking redemption into account, would be approximately £6 Gs 5d per cent. Whatever the term of the loan, the actual return, including redemption, must be over £6 Gs sd.
