MANUREWA TOWN BOARD
A vote of condolence was passed at the meeting of the Manurewa Town Board last evening* with the relatives of the late Mr. Butterworth. who was a past member and official of the board, and with Mr. Whyte, a member of the board, who has lost his sister.
In consequence of a complaint from a ratepayer regarding the disgraceful condition of the road and footpath ot Mahia Road, the foreman was instructed to hasten the arrival of the grader in the district and to complete the necessary work at the earliest date. A lengthy letter was received from the combined transport committee of the Otahuliu Borough Council, Papatoetoe and Manurewa Town Boards, endorsing the traffic inspector’s action in prosecuting a bus company for allowing overcrowding on its vehicles. Several complaints have been received of overcrowding on the buses travelling through Manurewa. and it was decided that the clerk authorise the inspector to take action at his discretion. Mr. Fawcett, the board's representative on the combined transport committee of the suburban local bodies, expressed surprise that a representative from the combined traffic committee was not invited to attend the conference at present being held m \> eiiington. _ , «. Mr. Fawcett said the traffic department of the Otahuhu Borough Council, Pa pa toe toe and Manurewa Town "Boards was the oldest of its kind »n Zealand and expressed the opinion that the special committee and tne officer engaged were the highest expo rs in New Zealand on rural roai control. Some of the data in i.s possession at present would have been of invaluable assistance to the conMi\ Gallaher said that it was not right that a conference should sit in V\ cllington to deal with road control throughout New Zealand.
