According to a computation made by experts as to tile perfect symmetrical figure, a woman sft sin in height should have a waist measurement of 24in. If your waist measurement is not in this proportion, you should endeavour to improve matters by means of simple exercises. The first essential is to strengthen the back. Lie flat on a bed, tuck the toes under the crosspiece of the footboard, and raise the body gently from the hips until you are in a sitting position. Remain thus for ten seconds Mow allow the body to fall gentlv back, the shoulders touching the bed first. Repeat this exercise ten times each morning and evening, to give stiength to the spine and prepare it tor the exercise which helps to lengthen the line from the under-arm to the waist thus: Stand upright, with the feet about 4in apart; turn the body slightly without moving the feet and bend forward toward the right until the fingers of the right hand can almost touch the right heel. Do (be same from the left side. Repeat six times. To smooth away superfluous flesh from the hips, stand with the feet firmly planted on the floor. 4in apart, keep the shoulders well back, and hold the head erect. SJowiv lift the right arm straight above the’head and, at the same time, drop the left hand at the side. The stretching upward on one side and the stretching downward on the other tend to strengthen tbe muscles as well as to reduce the hip measurement. Five minutes of this exercise every day for a few week* ■will work wonders.
