MONDAY IS THE FINAL DAY INCOME TAX DUE
Introducing Mr. E. J. R. Cumming, Commissioner of Taxes. There will be no excuse for those whose income tax is not paid by Monday. That is the termination of the 10 a^s ' *= race allowed from February Mr. Cumming is the man who fills the Treasury, so to speak, and provides sufficient money for Governments “to carry on.” His large office staff in Wellington is busily totting up the taxes paid last year before beginning on the returns for this year. Governments may come and go, but the Commissioner of Taxes must always see that so much of everybody’s income over £3OO goes to swell New Zealand’s “housekeeping” funds. A good deal of the income tax money has been paid in. already, but there are always those who wait until the last day. This morning the Post Office received quite a considerable amount. People must pay on Monday, otherwise the usual penalty will be imposed.
