FALL DOWN CLIFF
TERRIBLE ORDEAL OF INJURED ROADMAN WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 1 p.m. SYDNEY, Today. So seriously injured that he is unable to move, William Chalfont, aged 50, was rescued from the bottom of a 50-foot precipice near Manly. The man fell over a cliff on Thursday'night and was without food or water for five days. He chewed leaves and, when rain fell, he lay with his mouth open, drinking the raindrops. The ambulance men had a dangerous climb to reach Chalfont, who is now in hospital in a critical condition with his right arm fractured in two places, and his pelvis and ribs broken. The man was engaged in road work and it is alleged that trouble occurred at the camp. Chalfont was assaulted, and he had decided to go home. Two men have been arrested in connection with the attack.
