AUTHOR ATTACKED

BELITTLING AUSTRALIAN TROOPS “DIATRIBES” OF “SKULKERS” SYDNEY, Tuesday. The attack made by “Ex-Private X” on the Australians in his book, “War is War,” is strongly resented by former soldiers of the Commonwealth. Lieutenants-General Monash and Chauvel, and Brigadiers Lloyd and Herrins all deprecate too much notice being taken of the diatribes of authors who skulk behind the cover of anonymity. They say there has lately been an apparent campaign of contemptible scandal-mongering, with the object of belittling Australian soldiers. They were not murderers, and the best answer to the calumnies was the fact that any English general was glad to have them under him, and the finest reference as to their character was the way in which the French people received them.
