BARITONES AND CORNETS A GRADE TEST SELECTION Press Association DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The New Zealand band contests were continued today. There v/as only one Competition in the morning. .Tn the afternoon decision was readied in the B flat baritone solo competition. The championship B flat cornet solo was also held and the judge selected four competitors for recaJ. The evening was occupied with the first section of the A grade test selection. There was an excellent attendance. Results were: A Grade, First Test Selection.—Port Nicholson, 1; Wellington Municipal Tramways, 2; Woolston, 3; Queen Alexandra’s Own, Wanganui, 4; Kaikorai, 5; St. Kilda, 6: Tim aru Municipal, 7; Palmerston North, 8. Hymn Test.—Kaikorai, 1; Woolston, 2; St. Kilda, 3; Queen Alexandra's Own, 4: Wellington Tramways, 5; Fort Nicholson, 6: Palmerston North. 7. Points in this test count for the Conn Shield. p Flat Baritone Solo.—W. Nelson (Kaikorai), 96 points, 1; C. Smith (Timaru Municipal), 92, 2. Championship B Flat Cornet Solo, for Budd Wills Memorial Challenge Shield.— Recalls were: E. Kerr, jun. (Kaikorai), G. Christie (St. Kilda), W. Stevenson (Wellington Municipal), W. Chatterton (St. ICilda), 91 points, 3. The judge described the winner’s performance as wonderful. TWO DISQUALIFICATIONS PROFESSIONAL RULE BROKEN Press Association DUNEDIN, Tuesday. The executive of the South island Brass Bands’ Association met this afternoon for the purpose of inquiring into an allegation that the rule providing that only one professional could be engaged in any band had been broken in the C grade own choice selection on Saturday. The matter was gone into thoroughly, and after the evidence had been heard it was decided to disqualify the Maniototo and West Harbour Bands, which were placed first and second. The result of the decision is that the Green Island Band is placed first, Naseby second and Milton third.
