READY FOR OPENING

ANNUAL A. AND P. SHOW TOMORROWS EXHIBITION Tomorrow will see the opening of the annual show of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association at the Epsom Showgrounds. This will be continued on Friday and Saturday. Many workers have been busy at the grounds for the past week preparing the buildings to receive their exhibits and erecting fences and hurdles for the competition events. Sixteen loudspeakers have been installed at various points around the grounds and will keep the crowd fully informed of the position in all contests. This will be especially useful this year as there is to be a large number of novelty events, including steer riding, sheep-dog trials, hunters and jumping competitions, and in more humorous strain, riding on wild donkeys brought specially from Ponui Islknd. Children’s Day will be on Friday, on which day the Auckland Kennel Club’s annual show will open on the grounds. This will be continued on Saturday. After the usual grand parade on Saturday afternoon Mrs. J. T. F. Mitchell, wife of the president, will present the championship ribbons. Larger entries than for the last show have been received in nearly every class, and there are also a number of new sections. Excellent entries are recorded for the Friesian dairy cattle section, of which Mr. ,T. McAnulty, the well-known Canterbury Friesian breeder, has consented to act as judge. Great interest is being taken in the mature bull class, which has seven entries. These bulls, all prominent showring winners, are:— Hanley Netherland Butterboy, 1929 Royal Champion at Invercargill; Hobson Ensign Pontiac, 1928 Royal Champion at the Manawatu Show; Posch of Oakview, champion at the Franklin Show this month, who beat Hanley Netherland Butterboy: Echo Cotta of Oakview, reserve champion at the Waikato Show, 1929; Waitemata Zozo Mercedes, champion at Wbangarei, 1929; Hobson Ensign 13th, winner of the Ist prize for 2-year-olds at Auckland, 1928, and reserve champion at Franklin, 1929; and Hobson Zozo Ist, reserve North Island champion, 1928.
