MARINE SUBURBS BUS CO.
WORK AT BIRKENHEAD SMALL PROFIT FOR YEAR - The fifth annual general meeting of shareholders of the Marine Suburbs Bus Company, Limited, was held in the Victoria flail. Birkenhead. last evening, the chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, presiding. The balance-sheet showed a small profit over the years’ working. The chairman’s report stated that the losses had been cut and the assets written down to a low figure. The directors confidently hoped for a further improvement in the position during tho current year. "With the rapid growth of motor traffic the garage business should continue to improve. The contract for tho conveyance of children from Birltdale to the Northcote Junior Tligh School had been secured at a remunerative price. Tho failure of the present services to connect with all boats, continued tho report, and the inadequate provision mad© for handling the peak load, left the way open to again obtain a service licence should it be thought desirable.
Mr. "W. Wallace and the Hon. B. W. Alison, the retiring directors, were both re-elected,, and Mr. J. Thomson reappointed auditor. The chairman said the company in tho near future might apply for a licence to put a bus on the road.
The Hon. E. W. Alison referred to the good work done by Mr. Wallace, who has been chairman since the company started and proposed a hearty vote of thanks to him, and the manager, Mr. T. Smith, which was carried unanimously.
