ELIMINATION TESTS AT WESTERN SPRINGS | WOMEN RIDERS COMPETE AV itli a view to deciding the six best sprint riders in the Auckland district among the amateur ranks & series cf heats were decided at Western Spring* last evening under tiie auspices of the. Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Union of Cyclists. Besides this, the Manukau Club staged a three-mil#* senior race and a two-lap junior event. A still further race was conducted bv the Auckland Cycling Club over four laps, a novel handicap in the shape of a one-lap women’s handicap saw field of five face the starter. Seeing it was the first time the other sexhad been on the course, the performances of all were appreciated bv the large crowd present. Results were: Junior Handicap, two laps —W. P«„j. 1: H. Gordon, 2: G. Leather. 3. Tin's saw a popular win for the limit rider. He put in a good finish to gain _a two lengths' victory from a fast-finishing bunch. Eight started. t Sprint Championship.—First heat: .T. A\ ade. 1; L. Roberts, 2. Second heat: .\. Alackie, 1: N. Casey. 2. Third heat: .1. AVhitten, .1; L. Dwight, 2. Fourth heat: H. Dwight, 1; F. Casey, 2. First semifinal: F. Casey. 1: L. 'Dwight. 2. Second semi-final: L. Roberts, 1: N. Casey. 2. The final will be decided tomorrow evening. Amateur Handicap, three miles.—lf. I Dwight, 1: A. Mackie. 2; F. Caaev, ;; ; Sixteen started. The field soon settled ! down, with the limit bunch making a j very slow pace. The middle men. .F. Casey and Roberts, were putting in some • good work. The back-markers were I pacing splendidly with a lap gone. With ! eight laps to go, S*. Baird punctured and j came down heavily. As the riders came i round for tiie fifth lap the whole field was bunched. the 15 riders being ! all together, with the scratch trio in teh. centre. Entering the straight. Dykes j caught the back of Mackie’s wheel. The ; former, falling heavily, brought down I Wade and Francis. This caused the field to spread out a little. On the last lap “Jerry” AVhitten put in his claim. Then Mackie, Casey and H. Dwight came on the scene to see the latter win by half a wheel from Mackie, who was half a. length in front of F. Casey. H. Dwight's win from scratch proves him to be ranked as one of the club's best. However, Wade was unfortunate in falling, as he would have surely been in a placing. Professional Handicap, four laps.—F Taylor, 1: C. Yule, 2; J. McDonald. 2. Thirteen started. Time, 2.26 3-5. Women's Handicap, two laps.—E. Bu< kton, 1: D. Upson. 2. Five started. Miss Buckton, who was off a liberal handicap gave the others no chance and won by two lengths.

fe The following riders will compel© in the final of the sprint championship tomorrow night:—First heat: A. Mackie. H. Dwight. F. Casey. Second heat: J. Wade, J. AVhitten. L. Roberts. The four losers of the heats will then race off. The three winners will then contest the final.
