CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR SCHOOLS MOVEMENT BY CENTRE Pvealising the important field to be developed in school swimming', the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand
Swimming Association will revive an - nual school championships shortly. The first meeting of the kind will probably take place next month. The centre reached a unanimous decision on the point last evening after conferring with representatives of 16 primary schools. Mr. J. Enwright, chairman of the centre, pointed out that one of the aims of the centre was to encourage swimming among school children. For eight years up to 1922, school championships were conducted, but they were discontinued because of lack of interest. In the event of a revival every assistance would be given by the centre. Several schoolmasters supported the proposal with enthusiasm and it was decided to recommence the championships as soon as possible. The committee formed to complete arrangements for the event was Messrs. J. Enwright and PI. Moore, for the swimming centre: Messrs. C. F. Stratford. J. Gasparich. A. McGregor, H. Binstead. M. Day and Brother Calixtus. At. an afternoon carnival in the Tepid Baths the heats will be decided and the finals will be raced in the evening. It is suggested to approach the trustees of the Herbert Smith Fund for trophies and to limit the contests to children under the age of 15.
