NOTHING IN HIS FAVOUR
SALESMAN GAOLED FOR __ DEFALCATIONS DRINK BLAMED FOR TROUBLE “I can make no recommendation.” remarked the Probation Officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, when William Foulson Harrop appeared at the Police Court this morning for sentence on several charges. Mr. Schramm, for Harrop, blamed drink for the man’s troubles. Accused was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment.
Harrop, a salesman, aged 33, had been convicted on three charges of false pretences, in respect of a total sum of £4 17s 10d, one charge of failing to account for £ls, and one of stealing a typewriter valued at £ls. Chief-Detective Hammond reminded the court that, although Harrop had not previously been before the court, he had already proved dishonest in the service of the same firm. Armstrong and Springhalt, Ltd. That was at Wellington and the firm had given him another chance. Sentence of six months’ imprisonment was imposed on the charge of failing to account. On the other counts accused was convicted and discharged.
