COMPENSATION FOR WIDOW

RESULT OF SEAMAN’S DEATH

Compensation approximating £I,OOO was awarded by the Arbitration Court yesterday afternoon to Mrs. Florence Winifred McLeod, for the death of her husband, William McLeod. who received injuries to his thumb which resulted fatally, in the course of his work as a seaman on the steamer Ngapuhi. The Northern Steamship Company. Ltd., was the defendant. McLeod received the injury while he was assisting in splicing two wirerunners on March 12 last year, and died from septicaemia on April 2.
