NO EXCEPTIONS

PROSECUTION OF SPEEDING MOTORISTS TOURISTS MUST TOE MARK From Our Own Correspondent MORRINSVILLE, Friday. The opinion that motorists exceeding the county speed limit of 35 miles an hour should be prosecuted without fear or favour, was expressed by the Piako County Council, in declining a request that a charge of speeding against two touring motorists should not be proceeded with. The engineer, Mr. B. H. Horner, said he had a request of this nature —the first he had received —and he had been asked to bring it before the council. Two motorists had been held up for going 41 miles an hour on the concrete road between Te Aroha and Matamata. They said they were skilful drivers from Hawera and were merely passing through the district. He had written to the county engineer at Hawera as to the character of these motorists. The Hawera engineer had replied that they were well-known residents and had never been prosecuted for exceeding county speed limits. Mr. Horner asked if the council wished to order the inspector not to proceed with the charge against these men.

The chairman said this was not a question for the council. They should not interfere with the inspector or withdraw any prosecutions.
