PRICE-CUTTING ALLEGED

ELECTRICAL TRADE HARMED From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. That vicious price-cutting is being resorted to in connection with electrical contracts was a complaint made by the secretary of the Electrical Trades Union, Mr. H. E. Swindell, when, as a member of a deputation, he addressed the Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, on Thursday. “The number of endorsements of licences owing to bad work,” he said, “show's that the trade is in an awful state. We want to co-operate with the employers, but we can get no redress while that sort of thing is going on.” He declared that indirectly pricecutting affected the operatives engaged in th-e trade, as they had to “go like slaves” to make up for the cheap price at which the work was done. Moreover, constant supervision was necessary to ensure against bad workmanship.
