ALL-WEATHER ROAD
NEEDS OF THE FAR NORTH The Auckland Chamber of Commerce is to send a representative with a deputation which is to wait on the Minister of Public Works at Whangarei on March 3, when representations will be made for the completion of an all-weather road between Auckland and Kaitaia by the end of next summer. This decision was made at yesterday afternoon’s meeting: of the council of the chamber, following discussion on a communication from the Whangarei chamber, which read: “The chamber and other representatives of North Auckland seek your cooperation in urging the Main Highways Board to accelerate its activities to ensure having an all-weather road open between Auckland and Kaitaia by the end of next summer, which we have been promised. The sectors particularly concerned are Kaiwaka to Topuni, Dome Valley, and the completion of the Mangakahia and HukerunuiWhangarei Roads. Can you prevail on the board forthwith to commence the clay formation and deviation on the Kaiwaka-Topuni section, to ensure realisation of long deferred hopes next summer? A deputation meets the Minister of Public Works at Whangarei on March 3.”
