NEW FILMS AT LYRIC

“The „Show-down.” which is the chief item of the new double-feature picture programme at the Lyric Theatre this evening, is a powerful drama of hate on the Mexican oilfields. Excellent characterisations are given by George Bancroft and Evelyn Brent and Neil Hamilton, as the young lovers, and Fred Kohler as the villain. The second feature is “The Big Noise,” an amusing skit on municipal elections in America, starring Chester Conklin.

Sam Wood. who guided Anita Page’s film debut, brings a new discovery before the public in “So This Is College,” a new Metro-Gold wynMayer all-talking feature. The latest “find” is Sally Starr, dark-eyed beauty, who journeyed to Hollywood when she found that Wood was seeking fresh talent for his collegiate talkie.
