CIVIC

“BROADWAY” TOMORROW The fine programme at the Civic Theatre during the past week will have its final screening there this evening- This includes “Sunny Side Up,” the exceptionally entertaining musical comedy starring Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell; also the supporting programme of music and dancing. The Civic Theatre has one of the biggest treats of the year in store for its patrons. “Broadway,” the big alltalking Universal production, adapted from the record-holding stage success of a season or so ago, will be shown there beginning tomorrow. “Broadway” is reputed to have everything that makes for good entertainment. The story is a dramatic tale of two young innocents who become involved in a gripping underworld plot in connection with rum-running, and the night club activities of Broadway. Most of the action is laid in the back-stage section of a sumptuous Broadway night club, in the rehearsal rooms, the chorus dressing rooms and in the private party rooms. The picture is a startling slice of Broadway night life at its dizziest. The dining and dancing floor of the night club is the most elaborate ever constructed for motion pictures. It out-Broadways Broadway. With more than an acre of floor space, surrounded by tables, balconies and ramps, all done in the most modernistic style, the lavishness is almost indescribable. Photographed in technicolour, it is gorgeous.

Another fine supporting programme of music and dancing will also be presented tomorrow. Ted Henkel’s Civic Concert Orchestra will play “Slavische Rliapsodie” (Friedman), and Fred Scholl at the grand organ will plav “Souvenir” (Drdla). The new stage band entertainment, which will be entitled “Orientale,” will feature the brilliant trio, Ramon, Madeline and Pedro, and the Civic ballet.
