NEW BATHING SHEDS

PROPOSAL AT TAKAPUNA Better bathing facilities for Takapuna are suggested by Mr. J. W. Hayden, chairman of the Works Committee of tho Borough Council, who has proposed that the council’s tea kiosk at the foot of The Strand, next to the present bathing sheds, should be remodelled as dressing rooms and a clubhouse for the Taltapuna Surf and LifeSaving Club. This latter is growing steadily and is in search of new quarters. The proposals are being investigated by the Works Committee. The kiosk was bought by the council about 10 years ago, and has always been an expense to the borough. Leases as refreshment rooms have proved unsuccessful financial ventures for both tenants and council, and JJie building has been vacant for periods every year. At one time it was in use as the "Ozone Cabaret.” During the influenza epidemic of 1918 the building was used as an auxiliary hospital.
