TEACHERS WITHOUT WORK

OTAGO POSITION NOT SERIOUS From Our Own Correspondent DUNEDIN, Today. That the Otago Education Board does not regard the question of unemployed teachers in its district as being serious is shown by a statement issued yesterday. “The board has a list of 82 certificated teachers out of permanent employment,” says the statement. “Luring the month of February 52 of these teachers have been employed as relieving teachers, leaving 30 without work. Most of these without work this month will be given their turn at relieving in March or April. As the board requires on an average 50 relie\ing teachers monthly, a surplus of 32 over this number at the beginning ° <«rTM, e ye . ar ls excessive. The highest-graded teachers will f°° rl n w Ce i ve permanent appointments. Sun September or October there JT 111 . not be sufficient teachers for relieving work.”
