CHANGE OF STATUS
FINAL ARRANGEMENTS Final details in connection with One Tree ITill Road Board assuming the status of a borough council were discussed at a meeting of the board last evening. Mr. J. S. ITardwicke presided. It was stated that a letter had been received from the Department of Internal Affairs requesting the council to appoint a suitable date to make the change, the number of councillors suggested, the date of the election, and that of the first meeting of the council. It was decided that in view of the financial year ending March 31, the change should be made on that date. The date of the election was fixed for Wednesday. May 14, and that of the first council meeting for Wednesday, May 21. A further recommendation was that the council should consist of a mayor and six councillors, the same number as the members of the present board. The clerk, Mr. A. Leese, was appointed returning officer and town clerk, and instructed to prepare a district election roll.
